Chopok is one of the windiest places in Slovakia. The slopes of Chopok are a popular place for summer and winter tourism.
At the top, a key node of the radio relay network was established for the distribution of multiplexes and also for the distribution of external customer data. This building is also used for the needs of the meteorological service, established in 1954. After the construction of Kamenná chata (hut) was completed in 1969, a permanent operation was established there, and this point became of great telecommunications importance.
“This point is located in the heart of the National Park which means that during construction as well operation the highest environmental criteria must be observed.”
